Yes. By appointment, we are available any time for a Raleigh computer repair or anywhere in our service area. We are always there to repair computers when YOU need us! We will make appointments to repair Raleigh PCs days, nights and weekends.
We are not always in the office on weekends, but if you give us a call, we can almost always make arrangements. Lizardwebs office at 115 E 1st St Clayton is open from 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. We're usually there later, but we'd hate for you to show up at 7 pm and find us NOT there - so we'll stick with the 9-5 thing.
No - you don't need to stay right there with them. Be available for questions, but it’s actually best if users don’t hang out right there looking over our shoulder. It distracts your tech from the work being performed and slows it down. Not to say some extra time for US isn’t a bad thing, but…
If you’ve paid for it and have the license key, sure! If you have the install disks that is usually real helpful. We have our own install disks for a lot of common software, but we need to have your serial number or license keys. If you have some "niche" software like specialized software for your industry, we likely won't have THOSE install disks and we WILL need yours.
Some computer software is actually freeware and Lizardwebs uses freeware as often as possible. If you're a little cash strapped, we will happily guide you to free computer software to to meet your needs in many cases. For example, if you don't necessarily want to shell out the big bucks for programs like Microsoft Office and others.
Many times we get this question what the customer is really saying is, "Can you install this $500 computer software for me for free?" And the answer to that particular meaning is "No". If you already have some pirate software on your computer, we really don't care - we're not the software police, but please don’t ask us to pirate stuff for you.
We have a lot of install disks. If you have a license key, we can install the software with no issue! Sometimes we may need the software disk from you though - particularly niche software that is specific maybe to your industry. Ask us if you have something out of the ordinary about that particular computer software on your PC. If, on the other hand, you're asking us to install some pirated software for you, the answer is "No."
Be aware, when things go wrong with a computer, sometimes computer repair companies end up needing to reinstall software - and if you have a pirate software version on your computer, it may NOT make the transition - there is nothing we can do about that. If your computer data IS accessible on the hard drive and we can recover the install key we WILL use that regardless of where YOU originally got it. We don't spend our time checking to make sure all your keys match up or are legitimate - but if your pirate software key fails - don't blame us. We are NOT going to put our necks or credibility on the line by installing pirate software on your computer.
If you have a pirate operating system, this CAN cause MAJOR issues. If we can't get your pirate key to work, then you just MAY be out of luck until you can come up with (or BUY - we can help you with that) a legitimate key to reinstall it.
We've had this pirate software situation come up several times in the past. Just because you had a pirate version of Microsoft Office or Windows 7 working on your computer when it came to us for some problem, that does NOT mean we will guarantee that it will work when you get it back. We don't check keys or anything like that to see if it IS pirate software. If updates and cleaning remove the hacks required to make your pirate software work, we are NOT going to give you a free copy of Microsoft Office or Windows 7 or whatever. Don't ask. We don't care that it worked before. It was illegal. Period.
If you got a pirate Microsoft Office copy from your daughter's computer geek boyfriend and installed it, you need to probably talk to the daughter's computer geek boyfriend to do it again. Any legitimate Raleigh computer repair company will NOT install hack software or pirate software on your computer. If they do, you really need to question what OTHER shortcuts and liberties they took WITH your computer.
Usually, the answer is yes. Most of the time when computers "die", it's not necessarily the hard drive failing. Usually it just isn't "bootable" for whatever reason. So, if you have a bunch of work documents, family pictures or something along those lines that you want to recover from your computer, we can usually just hook the hard drive up to another computer and transfer them off.
We also have some specialized forensic data recovery software that will allow us to recover deleted or accidentally erased files. IF that is the case, STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER. When you use a computer, empty areas get written over. And if your deleted file remnants happen to be in that empty space (as far as the computer is concerned), it likely will get overwritten and become very difficult if not impossible to recover.
Now, if you have errors that mention "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE", THEN you may have a dead hard drive - and file recovery MAY be an issue. In some cases, we CAN recover your computer files as above by booting into another operating system (Linux) that may be a little more capable.
In other cases, computer files may be recovered by a specialized computer data recovery company that can pull apart your hard drive in a clean room environment, replace the hard disk drive platters on another exact match drive and recover them that way. It is lengthy, expensive and can't be done by your average local computer shop.
